New Year, New Look & New News

Galle, Sri Lanka

Hello, my friends! Happy belated new year! I didn’t intend to be away so long but….. I got an early Christmas gift in the form of a pre-holiday holiday to Sri Lanka. I’ve been fascinated with its history, tea culture, stunning scenery and colonial cities and architecture for ages so it was a dream to experience it in person.

When we got home, we hosted everyone at our house for Christmas week and as soon as they left, we headed straight to New York to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Twenty years, people! If that doesn’t deserve an over the top celebration, I don’t know what does! I like to say they’ve been the best years of his life. But seriously, folks, we make a good team and are already looking forward to our 30th. Awwww……

The highlights of this trip were the shows – Hamilton, A View From the Bridge and Thérèse Raquin – as well as the Picasso sculpture and Frank Stella exhibits. We ate well too, as usual, with the most notable meal being at Matsui. What an experience! And I can’t leave out our beautiful hotel. It was drop. dead. gorgeous…..

The stunning Baccarat Hotel was our home last week.

After New York, it’s been a frenzy catching up on everything back home, taking all the holiday decorations down and getting the foundation laid for a new year. So here I am, a little late but I am so ready to get another year of blogging started! We are now officially into year 8 of FTRB! (What?!)

And to start our eighth year, I decided that FTRB needed a new look so I’ve given it a little facelift. (Larger photos, simpler layout, less clutter…..) If you’re reading this post in an email or from a reader I do hope you’ll have a chance to pop over to the actual site to have a look. I’d love any feedback you may have.

This year, I’m also going to continue to switch things up and experiment more in terms of content and presentation. My goal is less perfectionism, more sharing. (Coincidentally, this is my goal for other aspects of my life too. 🙂 )Hopefully this will also mean more posts.

On that front, I have some exciting news that will greatly impact things around here. My house is finally going to be published in a magazine this year! If you’re a regular reader, you know it’s been a long time coming. It’s a long story but a different magazine than the one I had originally told you about will be publishing my house. As soon as I have the details, you’ll be the first to know! In the meantime, this has kicked me into high gear in terms of projects and I want to go back to the old days where I took you through my thought process. So again, look for more posts!

I’ll be back soon to tell you about what I’m doing to get the house magazine-ready and to update you on Project Simplify. (I haven’t abandoned it!) Until then…..

  5. Wow! Congrats on the feature! Dying over the Baccarat hotel picture…and everything about your home 🙂 I love your resolution of less perfectionism- more sharing. I have that same problem and it is really debilitating!! Congrats again and can’t wait to see more posts 🙂

    1. Hi, Elizabeth, thanks so much for stopping by and for the kind words! You know, I was the last person to realize I had these perfectionist tendencies so I had no idea how much they got in the way. Debilitating is the perfect way to describe it. Having recognized it, I’m hoping I can start working on getting over it. Thanks so much again!
