The Perfect Sofa?

This room. Aside from the chandelier, I’m completely in love with this sofa.

It looks like this sofa from George Smith:

George Sherlock also makes a similar one:

There is also the Lee Industries version which Lauren at Pure Style Home actually found on Craiglist. She then had it upholstered in the most beautiful shade of green:

Isn’t it just gorgeous? (By the way, Lauren’s been decorating her new house and doing the most amazing job. If you haven’t seen it yet, you really must.)

I don’t need a sofa at the moment since ours is only a couple of years old. But someday I will and this one could work in a variety of different style of rooms:

and would you look at that, another occasion to post Jenna Lyons’ living room:

Will I ever tire of her house? At this point, I’m thinking no.

Do you have a favorite couch style?

  1. Nice one! The couch looks so comfy yet it has a contemporary feel to a traditional look. As you've shown, it looks great in any room with any decor. I like the yellow one, but then yellow IS my favourite colour.

  2. It's the arms. They are so beautifully curved and proportioned that they make most sofas appear muscular and gauche. I love the patterned red one with red-piped seat cushions, but they're all fabulous.

  3. I love these sofas…we have the same here in the U.K.My only trouble with them is, if you are laying at full stretch, it's a bit uncomfortable on your head !!!! But, that's me and I do like laying out on my sofa !!!! Am I a slob ?!!! XXXX

  4. I think it is gorgeous looking, but having recently purchased a 2seat and 3seat sofa set, I can assure you that good looking is not always code for "comfortable". Back support was a major issue for a lot of gorgeous sofas, also, some had too large a seat, too small a seat, saggy cushions, too hard etc etc. So I think your choice of sofa is divine, but until I sit in it, the jury is out on viability!! hope I didn't spoil it for you… silly me!

  5. YES…this is my favorite sofa and it will be my next big purchase once we move…it is classic and can go traditional or modern…love it in the velvets!!!

  6. Jackie: Me, too. I see this more in a formal living room. I have another big cushy sofa for being a slob on. πŸ™‚

Annie: I agree trying out a sofa is important. I've actually sat in all three of these couches at one point or another though and know that they're some of the best made couches around.

Shar: I go back and forth about that too!

  7. (Ahem – just slipping on my geek specs) In England we call this style of sofa the Howard, after it's 19th century designer Howard & Sons. An angry man made my sofa – I like it, but it needs a new seat cushion.

  8. I love the last image and will NEVER grow tired of it! You could post it daily! ha!

Favorite sofa…hmmmm? One that keeps its form with no slouch or wrinkles. Our dream sofa is the Charles B&B Italia! Swoon!

  9. The chandelier is stunning. It gives me the idea is made out of layers.

The brown sofa is beautiful. The fabric looks like velvet and if it is, it goes perfectly with the sofa style.

As a designer I think it's so important to find the right shape with the perfect finish.

I love the last shot too!

  10. Oh I am right there with your taste! Love those big deep ones that you can curl up in. I have to say that first chandelier is out of this world…I love the modern take on a classic.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my blog, I appreciate it!

  11. Raina: I did see that! If it weren't for the fact that I already have one extra couch (plus a settee), I would have jumped on that baby!

Gaboushka: Thanks for that info! Now I know what to call it!

Melissa: That's hysterical. I totally would post her house every day and wouldn't get sick of it either. πŸ˜€

  12. I like this sofa. It's one that I don't think you could tire of for years to come…it could work in a traditional or a more modern space even, and I must say, it looks smashing in yellow. (Jenna's place is so lovely!)

  13. Love this post Alek!!!

That sofa style has been on my brain for weeks now. Of course we got a new massive sofa two years when we first moved into our home and it looks nothing like the ones pictured, but when I finally need a new one I'm going for Lee Industries. Hopefully I'll find an amazing craigslist find as well!

  14. I don't know that I have a fave style of couch. Probably something comfortable but clean. Couches are tough. The more I look at them, the weirder they look – I mean all of them!

  15. haha i have to say this is one of my favorite sofa styles! πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ thanks so much for including me alek!! ours is actually really comfy & a nice depth & you can spoon if you need to. It's def a little short but I like to use one arm with a little pillow on it so it's fine for me at 5'8. (and for our standard feet curled up position you would definitely love it because it's so soft & cushy & definitely deep enough for that.)

i also really love a good, deep shelter sofa for napping (ok, conking out πŸ˜‰

and hey it looks like commenting is working perfectly!! how'd you fix it?!!! THANK YOU!!!!

  16. lol. Nope, we'll never get tired of Jenna Lyons house!!! I demand an in person tour.

That couch is GREAT – I've seen it around, but never connected the dots. The green is great, and I don't usually like that much pink – but it's beautiful here. Great post.

  17. That article of Jenna Lyons home in Domino, was one of my all time favorites. I love what she did to the babys room with the stripes on the ceiling and the dark wall.

  18. err breathtaking!!

and my favorite part was the black cat pillow against the yellow sofa, yummy!

happily exploring around the blog community because i'm new (been meaning to introduce myself!) and finding new friends and blogs — would love to swap links or anything.

  19. I'm craving a sofa with a tufted back and ladylike curves in peacock blue. Believe it or not, Crate and Barrel has one that's stunning, but we just don't have room. I'd also love a pink sofa one day – watermelon pink! But I have no idea where I'd be able to put a pink sofa!

  20. It's AMAZING to me how many times I come on your site and find things on my love list. That sofa is the ULTIMATE sofa. George Smith. George Sherlock. Jenna. No matter how you slice it, that silhouette is soooooo SWEET! Perfection.

  21. can you tell me if the brown is velvet? If so, how does velvet hold up with 3 boys??? want that one in the worst way!
